According to [ArabianBusiness], free Wi-Fi will be available across Dubai by end of 2017 as Smart Dubai and telecom operator du are planning to expand the current network to cover the whole country. Etisalat already offers high-speed public Wi-Fi in more than 250 public locations in the UAE.
The speeds offered will allow consumers to browse the net and use Whatsapp mainly. Once tried and test, free Wi-Fi will be rolled out across the UAE, not just Dubai.
“Two weeks ago we saw Dubai’s taxis offer free Wi-Fi and within a year it will be everywhere across the city,” Aisha bin Bishr, the director general of Smart Dubai, told The National. We offer [bandwidth of] 512kbps, which allows people to connect to social media and use WhatsApp, but you will not be able to watch videos or technology which requires higher speeds.”
