The United Arab Emirates now requires all social media influencers, or in other terms those conducting commercial activities through social media to register for a government-issued license. The move aims to professionalize and regulate the industry according to the National Media Council.
Anyone who is charging fees in exchange of promotional posts needs to register by June or face 5,000-dirham ($1,360) fines. Their website/account could face closure if they don’t comply with the rules.
